There wasn’t a comeback required in this one.
Several weeks ago during the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association opening weekend, Halifax Hornets had to come back from a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat the Fredericton Freeze.
It was a different script Sunday as the Hornets cruised to a 76-49 win over the Freeze during Day II middle game action at Mount St. Vincent University.
Chanel Smith paced a balanced Hornets’ offence with a dozen points.
Arianna Macias scored 10 and Cailin Crosby added nine as 13 different players had at least a single point in the win.
Katie McAffee once again paced Fredericton offensively with 12 points, eight of them in the first half. Katie Daley, Eva Tumwine and Emily MacLeod all offered eight.
Halifax improved its record to 4-1 for sole possession of second place in the league.
Fredericton lost both weekend games and fell to 2-3, sitting fourth overall in the six-team circuit.
