Talk about dramatics.
Bailey Black’s inside bucket with 26 seconds to play snapped a tie and would send the Fredericton Freeze to a dramatic 58-54 win over Saint John’s Port City Fog.
The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association game drew 504 fans to Leo Hayes High School.
Tied 54-54 after Port City’s Kaylee Kilpatrick knocked down two free throws, the Freeze charged up court, Black scoring inside past a pair of Fog defenders for the winning bucket. Nicole Esson hit two free throws to ice it.
Fredericton improved to 3-3 and climbed into a third place tie with idle Windsor Edge.
Emily MacLeod scored 16 points to power Fredericton which held a 31-27 halftime lead, but watched the Fog go on a 17-3 third quarter run. Katie Daley hit 11 and Esson had eight.
Reese Baxendale had 15 for Port City and Courtney Thompson had a dozen. Rachel Farwell scored 10.
Fog fell to 1-6 on the season and returns home Sunday to face Moncton Mystics, a 2 p.m., start at Saint John High School.
