There is a Maritime Women’s Basketball Association outing tonight in Saint John with major implications in the standings.
It’s such a big game, that the MWBA selected the outing as its Medavie Game of the Week.
And there’s more.
A major announcement regarding the MWBA will be made at the contest between host Port City Fog and visiting Moncton Mystics.
Game time is 7 p.m. at the University of New Brunswick at Saint John.
‘We know tonight’s game is huge for both teams in the standings, but we also wanted to have an opportunity to reward our fans and fans of the MWBA with what we are going to make public,’ said Fog general manager, Paul Hickey. ‘It will be great to welcome our fans back where we’ve been road warriors early in the season and we believe our announcement is going to make a lot of people happy.’
Port City has been idle since May 14 after jumping out of the gate with five quick games.
Fog sits alone in third place with a 3-2 record and greets Moncton, the Mystics coming to town looking to get to .500, entering with a 2-3 mark.
Halifax Thunder leads the circuit at 7-0 followed by Fredericton Freeze at 4-2 and eight points.
The race for first place in both provinces means something for the post-season.
Top seed in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia earns a bye in the first round of the playoffs, an automatic semifinal berth.
No. 2 in NB plays No. 3 in Nova Scotia and No. 2 in Nova Scotia faces No. 3 in New Brunswick in quarter-final play later this month.
Following tonight’s clash, all six teams gather in Halifax for a tournament session at Saint Mary’s University.
The NB teams will face NS squads over Saturday and Sunday.
