MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

Training Camps in Full Swing

April is moving along.

Before we know it, the ball will go up and Season III of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association will be under way.

All teams will be in full swing this weekend with their tryout camps or practices in preparation for the season which begins May 2.

That’s the date for reigning Legacy Cup champion Halifax Thunder to host city rival Halifax Hornets.

Game time is 7 p.m. at Saint Mary’s University.

There will be a new look to the MWBA this season with seven teams operating.

Expansion Miramichi Her-icanes joined the original six teams from 2022 including Thunder, Hornets and Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth along with New Brunswick’s Fredericton Freeze, Port City Fog of Saint John and Moncton Mystics.

Lake City spent its first two seasons in the MWBA as the Windsor Edge before moving its franchise.

All team rosters must be announced seven days prior to a teams first game of the regular season.

All teams will play a 10-game regular schedule.

Legacy Cup championship weekend will be in Nova Scotia, June 22 to 23 under a new format featuring four teams.

The venue will be announced soon.
