The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association continues to make strides in its development.
Preparing to enter its third season of operation, the MWBA will begin its new seven-team look with a major step forward when it comes to statistics.
The MWBA will partner with Hoopsalytics for 2024, featuring comprehensive statistical data and video.
‘We have had basic scoring statistics since we opened the league, but as the MWBA developed, more and more coaches, players and fans were asking for something more detailed,’ said MWBA commissioner Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘With Hoopsalytics, we are able to take a deeper dive into data and that’s what everyone is clamouring for. It can also augment our YouTube livestream game videos as a teaching component.’
The MWBA opens this weekend with five games on tap including three on Saturday, May 4.
It all begins in Cole Harbour at 3 p.m. when host Lake City 56ers welcome reigning champion Halifax Thunder.
The game is set for Cole Harbour High School.
At 6 p.m., Fredericton Freeze will welcome Moncton Mystics to the Richard J. Currie Center and at 7 p.m., Port City Fog host Miramichi Her-icanes at Saint John’s TD Station.
On Sunday, there are a pair of 3 p.m. outings.
Lake City crosses the bridge to play Halifax Hornets at Mount St. Vincent University and Miramichi opens its first-ever home date, facing the Freeze.
That game is set for Miramichi Valley High School.
