‘Canes Guard Earns Honour

The Miramichi Her-Icanes are writing an interesting script in their first year of operation in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.

A lot of that script is authored by Lauren Rainford.

The talented point guard with the Her-icanes is the MWBA’s Player of the Week – Presented by Royale for her exploits on the floor.

Rainford had 27 points in just under 35 minutes of play in Miramichi’s 93-73 win over visiting Moncton Mystics. She added nine assists and grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Moncton’s Leo Elbert was also nominated. Elbert cranked out a league-record 35 points in the setback to Miramichi.

Others nominated for the weekly award were Andrea Wright of Lake City 56ers and Alisha McNeil of Halifax Hornets.

Halifax Thunder, Port City Fog of Saint John and Fredericton Freeze were all idle during last week’s light schedule.

League action continues this week.
