56ers Start Roadie With Dub

Lake City 56ers are continuing to make Maritime Women’s Basketball Association noise.

The Dartmouth-based 56ers handed Saint John’s Port City Fog a 75-66 setback on Saturday night to open their New Brunswick road swing in impressive fashion.

Lake City moved its record to 6-1 and remain tied with undefeated Halifax Thunder (6-0) atop the standings. The 56ers’ only setback was an opening game 72-70 loss to the Thunder.

The 56ers stay in the Picture Province and meet the Fredericton Freeze on Sunday.

Game time is 1 p.m. at Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.

Port City fell to 3-3 on the season.

Courtney Donaldson and Elizabeth Iseyemi both had 14 points for Lake City in the win. Courtney Cain-Nordin offered nine.

The Courtney theme was all over the place as Port City’s Courtney Thompson paced her squad with 17 points. Rachel Farwell added 15 and Kaylee Kilpatrick scored 13.

The Fog is now in a three-way tie for third place in the MWBA and in New Brunswick standings.

Port City, Fredericton and Miramichi Her-Icanes are all 3-3.

The top two teams in NB will host a single game playoff June 18 for the right to advance to the Pr0*Line Stadium Series Legacy Cup at Dalhousie University June 22-23.
