Halifax Thunder found itself down 10 points in the third quarter, facing a long road back against the hometown Fredericton Freeze.
Cue the comeback.
Thunder wiped out that 10-point deficit in a manner of minutes and although Fredericton would close to within one late in the fourth frame, Halifax found a way and pulled out an 89-84 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win.
Halifax has now won four in a row, improving to 5-2 with the win. Fredericton has lost three straight, sitting at 4-5 as the league enters it final week of regular season play.
Thunder’s balanced offence continued, but it was Sami Russell who powered the way, scoring 22 points. Bianca Helmig had 16 and Alaina McMillan added 10.
Bailey Russell’s 21 points sparked Fredericton. Eva Tumwine had 20 including 12 in the third quarter. Katie Daley sunk 14.
The Freeze held a 48-42 halftime lead, but trailed 71-67 entering the fourth quarter.
