Truro Unveils its Logos

The expansion Truro Tidal Queens are riding a wave of momentum.

Fresh of announcing its first-ever coach in Lonnie States and first-ever player in former Atlantic University Sport sharpshooter Kendra MacKinnon, the Tidal Queens have officially launched their logo for their foray into the eight-team Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.

The bright colour scheme features royal purple, silver and hints of aqua and gold.

Colours fit for a queen, in fact.

‘Truro has come flying out of the gates and with everything it does, it’s doing very well from a marketing and communication position,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen Lloyd of Dartmouth. ‘Cindy MacNeil and Robbie McGee are showing they are coming in with a plan and have been following it to the letter. The Tidal Queens have certainly been impressive off the court and are working hard to ensure they are competitive right off the bat on the court.’

Truro enters the league in the Nova Scotia Division, joining Halifax Hornets, Halifax Thunder and reigning regular season champion Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston.

The New Brunswick Division features defending champion Miramichi Her-Icanes, Fredericton Freeze, Moncton Mystics and Saint John’s Port City Fog.

The league’s fifth anniversary season opens the first week of May.

The PRO•LINE Legacy Cup championship will be held in Nova Scotia the third weekend of June with four teams attending. PRO•LINE was announced as the league’s presenting partner earlier in the week for the 2026 season.

A site will be determined in early spring.

States, who was an associate coach with the 56ers last season.

He is excited to take on the head coaching role with the Tidal Queens.

‘Things are really coming together in Truro and we are getting high interest from players looking to play,’ said States. ‘We are assembling a very good coaching staff. We are all about women in sport.’
