The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association has allowed many women to find love of game, returning to the floor to play the sport they loved for years.
Count Meredith Hay in the group.
The Sussex, NB, product has been away from the game as a player, but basketball has never left her day-to-day life whether coaching, training athletes and more.
The decision to return to basketball as a player came when the MWBA announced it was expanding to eight teams this season with the Truro Tidal Queens the league’s newest team.
Hay has signed on with the Tidal Queens to bring passion to Truro.
‘Meredith is back and ready for the next chapter,’ said the Tidal Queens in a release. ‘Known as a vocal leader who brings real energy and sets the tone, Meredith is coming to grow with the Queens and help build something special in Truro on and off the court, in the community and for the next generation of girls chasing the game.’
Truro will play in the MWBA’s Nova Scotia Division with Halifax Hornets, Halifax Thunder and Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston.
The New Brunswick Division features Fredericton Freeze, Miramichi Her-Icanes, Moncton Mystics and Saint John’s Port City Fog.
League play begins the opening week of May as the MWBA celebrates its fifth anniversary season.
