The Halifax Hornets are buzzing.
The Hornets, the inaugural Maritime Women’s Basketball Association champions from 2022, are showing signs they are ready to work their way to another PROLINE Legacy Cup title with a smash of signings.
Halifax had previously announced Aki Kobayashi and Sara Brazil – the latter coming in from Ireland – to its 2026 roster, but then brought in a number of players including long-time veteran Jasmine Parent, who will be playing in her fifth MWBA season, all with the Hornets’ organization.
Parent is sixth all-time in league scoring, earning 333 points over four seasons and 39 games. She has missed one game in her MWBA career, a remarkable showing of resiliency.
Another returning veteran is Melina Collins. She has appeared in 26 MWBA games and has earned 133 points over that span.
Other Halifax signings include a crew of former Saint Mary’s University Huskies including Katelyn Power, Lucina Beaumont and Chloe Wilson. That trio all were teammates with Kobayashi during a string of Saint Mary’s Atlantic University Sport championship teams.
Present-day Huskies Lily Francois and Emily Dikdan will also suit up with the Hornets.
Present-day University of New Brunswick Reds’ player Sasha Dabb also inked with Halifax.
Power, Beaumont, Wilson and Dabb have all played in the MWBA previously.
Power played last year with the Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston.
