If there’s a busier off-season team than the Truro Tidal Queens, you’d be hard-pressed to find one.
The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association continues its effort to create its roster as an expansion team for the 2026 season under head coach, Lonnie States.
Just because it’s an expansion franchise, doesn’t mean Truro is shy.
It signed three players this week, looking for a roster spot under States’ watchful eyes.
A familiar face in Truro, Katie Titus has signed on.
Titus is from Sussex, NB, and played with the St. Thomas University Tommies at the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association level.
An Atlantic University Sport veteran, guard Korenda Colley is returning to competition with the Tidal Queens.
Colley spent five seasons in the AUS, three seasons with Dalhousie University Tigers in Halifax and two in Antigonish with St. Francis Xavier University X-Women.
She appeared in 90 career regular season games with Dalhousie and the X-Women out of Dartmouth High School.
Colley amassed 109 career assists and 61 steals during her career.
‘Korenda is stepping out of retirement and bringing her veteran grit and elite competitive edge to our roster,’ said the Tidal Queens in a release. ‘Her identity on the hardwood has always been defined by a relentless defensive presence. She is a tenacious defender who meets every single matchup with an intensity that challenges the best of the best. When the ball moves to the offensive end, she shifts into a poised leader, utilizing the high basketball IQ and commitment to teamwork.’
Halifax product Zoe Mombourquette is also signing with Truro.
The former Halifax Steelers’ youth program player, she played interscholastically at Halifax West, Atlantic Pred Academy and Canada Elite AAU.
Mombourquette plays in the ACAA with the University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax.
She averaged just under 18 minutes a game with the Blue Devils and averaged 7.4 points per outing.
With Titus and Colley as part of the Truro program, the Tidal Queens are also embracing another key component of the MWBA.
Both are working mothers and give back to their communities.
Titus is a proud mom to her son JJ and is also a key part of the Truro region with coaching and mentorship.
Off the court, Colley is embracing her most rewarding role yet as a new mom to her beautiful eight-month-old daughter, Ki’ara. In her professional life, Colley is a powerhouse in the community, serving as a Case Manager dedicated to helping the most vulnerable populations achieve an autonomous lifestyle.
