PRO•LINE Legacy Cup to Fredericton

The 2025 PRO•LINE Legacy Cup was a smashing success in Fredericton.

So, the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is coming back to New Brunswick’s Capital City again in June to decide the 2026 champion.

The four-team event will be held at the Richard J. Currie Center on the campus of the University of New Brunswick, June 20-21.

‘We are extremely pleased to announce the 2026 PRO•LINE Legacy Cup hosting has been awarded to the Fredericton Freeze,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie, of Dartmouth, NS. ‘We want to sincerely thank the Freeze for an outstanding bid submission. The desire to host reflected an exceptional level of preparation, professionalism and passion for the MWBA. The effort and detail the Freeze team put forward was greatly appreciated.’

McKenzie lauded Atlantic Lottery Commission’s PRO•LINE for its commitment to the MWBA.

‘Last year’s tournament was on another level when it came to competition and an event like that truly isn’t possible with the exceptional partnership with Atlantic Lottery’s PRO•LINE,’ said McKenzie. ‘It has a belief in our league that showcases women as players, coaches, officials and more. The MWBA has expanded to eight teams for 2026 and it’s partners such as Atlantic Lottery’s PRO•LINE that keep us moving forward.’

Scott Eagles, the director of sports betting at Atlantic Lottery, said the opportunity to be the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup’s presenting partner was a key part of being community-minded.

‘Atlantic Lottery’s PRO•LINE is thrilled to be back again this year as presenting partner of the Legacy Cup Championship weekend in June,” said Eagles. ‘The MWBA continues to thrive and we are incredibly proud to support them as they make a game-changing impact in our region, advancing opportunity for woman in sports.”

Two teams from the New Brunswick Division and two from Nova Scotia Division will gather at the Richard J. Currie Center for the championship weekend.

Semifinal action will be held Saturday, June 20.

The winners of those two games clash for the title – won last year by Miramichi Her-Icanes – on Sunday, June 20. There will be a third-place game for the losing semifinal teams.

UNB is a platinum partner for the event.

This year, the New Brunswick Division features the Freeze, reigning PRO•LINE Legacy Cup champion Miramichi HerIcanes, Port City Fog of Saint John and Moncton Mystics. The Nova Scotia Division has Halifax Thunder, Halifax Hornets, Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston and expansion Truro Tidal Queens.

Miramichi defeated Lake City, 78-68 in a thrilling overtime championship game last year at the RJCC. Thunder tamed Fredericton, 71-63 in the third place game.

The Thunder has two PRO•LINE Legacy Cups (2023, 2024) and the Hornets have one (2022) to join Miramichi as past champions. Lake City has been to the past two championship games.

Tickets for the event, which will be available at the RJCC box office on game days, are $30 for a tournament pass for adults, $25 for a senior/student pass or single day tickets are $15 adults for both games that particular day and $12 for students and seniors for the two-game package.

Children under-14 are admitted free.
