Cira Nutrition Joins MWBA

A Canadian company is joining the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association as a key partner.

The MWBA is welcoming Cira Nutrition to the fold in 2026.

Powered by women, Cira Nutrition will help hydrate MWBA players once the league opens its fifth anniversary season May 2.

‘As a Canadian, women-led brand, it means a lot to partner with an organization that is working to grow women’s sport right here in our own communities,’ said Cira Nutrition in a release. ‘The MWBA is creating opportunities for athletes, coaches, and fans across the Maritimes. We’re proud to support the league and the incredible athletes who bring the game to life each season.’

MWBA players will also receive Cira Nutrition shakers and product to help fuel their drive this season.

‘We’re incredibly proud to be the Official Electrolyte Partner of the MWBA,’ said the release. ‘The league has built something truly special over the past four seasons, creating opportunities for talented women to continue competing at a high level while strengthening the basketball community across the Maritimes. At Cira, supporting women in sport is something we deeply believe in, and we’re excited to help fuel the athletes throughout the season.’

The MWBA features eight teams including four in New Brunswick and a quartet in Nova Scotia.

The NB Division features reigning league champion Miramichi HerIcanes, Port City Fog of Saint John, Moncton Mystics and Fredericton Freeze. NS Division has Halifax Hornets, Halifax Thunder, Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston and expansion Truro Tidal Queens.

‘It’s an amazing opportunity for the MWBA to be involved with a national company and Cira fits perfectly into what our league and our women continue to provide in a high-end, remarkable league,’ said MWBA secretary and Director of Partnerships and Program, Anna Lee LeBlanc of Moncton, NB. ‘It is so satisfying to see women supporting women in a very competitive world from a business and athletic perspective.’

It’s all part of a driving force of women in sport.

‘Women’s sport is growing faster than ever, and leagues like the MWBA are playing a huge role in creating more opportunities for athletes to compete, develop, and stay connected to the game,’ said Cira. ‘At Cira, we’re passionate about supporting women in every arena of life, including sport, and we’re proud to stand alongside the MWBA as they continue to build something meaningful for athletes and fans across the Maritimes.’

The MWBA will play a 10-game regular season, leading into provincial playdowns in June.

There will be two semifinals in each province leading to the PRO·LINE Legacy Cup.

Fredericton will host the Final Quartet June 20-21 at the Richard J. Currie Center.

‘What the MWBA has accomplished in just four seasons is incredibly inspiring,’ Cira said. ‘From competitive play to strong community support and opportunities for athletes to continue their careers, the league is helping shape the future of women’s basketball in Atlantic Canada. We’re honoured to support that momentum as the league’s Official Electrolyte Partner. Basketball demands energy, endurance, and proper hydration, especially during intense competition. Cira Hydration was created to make staying hydrated simple, convenient, and enjoyable without the sugar or additives often found in traditional sports drinks. We’re excited to support MWBA athletes with hydration that helps them stay ready to perform both on and off the court.’
