Thunder Rumbles Past Expansion Truro

Halifax charged out of the gate and never looked back as the Thunder rumbled to a 116-50 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win over Truro Tidal Queens in the Nova Scotia capital Saturday.
It was the first game of the season for Halifax and the first-ever for expansion Truro.
Sandy Saunders paced all scorers for the Thunder, drilling 21 points. Former Canada Basketball national team member Justine Colley-Leger and European pro Elizabeth Beale-Iseyemi had 17 apiece.
Ava MacNutt scored 16 in the win, and Alexis Evans sank 14.  Isa MacKay’s nine points topped Truro’s offence, and Courtney Cain-Nordin had eight. Korenda Colley and Zoe Mombourquette had six each.
Halifax visits Lake City 56ers (1-0) Sunday at 3 p.m., starting at Cole Harbour High School.
Lake City defeated Moncton Mystics, 102-96, in its opener Saturday.
