Halifax Starts Fast to Down ‘Canes

No fooling around for the Halifax Hornets.

Halifax started fast offensively and didn’t allow Miramichi much at the other end, the Hornets rolling to a 105-42 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win on Saturday.

The Hornets moved to 3-1 on the season. Miramichi fell to 1-4.

Clara Gascoigne powered the Hornets’ offence with a game-high outburst of 24 points. Samantha Russell struck for 18, Lily Francois had 13 and Lucy Beaumont 11. Emily Dikdan offered 10.

Ava Sprague’s 13 paced Miramichi. Maika LeBlanc had a dozen.

The Hornets stay at their Mount St. Vincent University home on Sunday, welcoming the Truro Tidal Queens to town.

Game time is 2:30 p.m.

Miramichi wraps its Halifax swing, visiting Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston.

That’s a 3 p.m., outing at Cole Harbour High School.
