Fog Rolls Out of Truro With Win

The Port City of Saint John opened its Nova Scotia weekend swing with a convincing Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win Saturday night.

Port City downed host Truro Tidal Queens, 90-50, moving to 5-4 on the season, remaining tied with Fredericton Freeze for second spot in the New Brunswick Division.

Fog invades Halifax on Sunday to play the Thunder. Port City will know its fate entering that game with Fredericton facing Truro in a noon tilt in the Nova Scotia hub.

A Fredericton win guarantees second spot even if Fog defeats Halifax based on head-to-head points for between the two rivals.

At Truro, Grace Tilley continued her hot hand with a game-high 17 points. Cara Palk and Celine Sterckel had 14 each while Julia Williams and veteran Amelia Mitchell both had a dozen.

Nalini Maharaj scored 14 for Truro. Kendra MacKinnon had nine and Courtney Cain-Nordin eight for Truro.

The Tidal Queens fell to 0-9 in their expansion season. Truro will face Thunder in a Nova Scotia semifinal next weekend at a site and date to be announced.
