Returning home and playing under a familiar coach was a recipe for Sashaneil Dabb to make a change.
The former University of New Brunswick Reds’ forward has left the reigning Atlantic University Sport champions and landed with the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association’s Mount St. Vincent University Mystics in her home city of Halifax.
The move comes with a comfortable landing spot under the direction of veteran Mount St. Vincent head coach, Mark Forward.
Forward coached Dabb this past season with his Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Halifax Hornets.
Dabb has appeared in 15 MWBA games, averaging 5.3 points per game for the Hornets over two seasons.
‘I’m beyond excited to be joining MSVU and playing for the Mystics,’ Dabb told the MSVU social media. ‘After getting the chance to play for Mark in the MWBA with the Hornets, I’m really happy I get to continue learning from him this upcoming season. I had so much fun and grew a lot under his coaching, and I can’t wait to keep developing my game.’
Dabb is familiar with many of her new teammates with the Mystics.
‘I’m also really excited to play alongside such a wonderful group of girls and for a great coaching staff,’ she said. ‘For me, this is about growing not only on the basketball court but also in the classroom. I couldn’t be happier for what’s ahead.’
Forward was only too happy to add Dabb to his perennial ACAA contending squad.
‘We’re very excited to add Sasha to our program. She brings a great motor, athleticism, versatility and experience to the Mystics,’ he said. ‘Offensively, she’s a true three-level scorer who can stretch the floor, attack the basket and score in the mid-range. Defensively, her length and athleticism give her the ability to guard different positions while also providing rim protection. Sasha brings a skill set that fits extremely well with how we want to play.’
The six-foot-one forward appeared in 17 career games with UNB, scoring 37 points and garnering 39 rebounds.
