Welcome to Day II of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s new awareness campaign.
Today we bring you to a unique organization.
It’s the only squad in the eight-team MWBA that calls three different centres home.
Nova Scotia’s Lake City 56ers represent Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Preston and proudly call all three centres home.
The 56ers have played its games in Dartmouth and Cole Harbour over the years and are planning on bringing Preston into the fold a little more during the 2027 season.
Lake City earned its MWBA start in another location.
Part of the Original Six, the 56ers started as the Windsor Edge back in 2022 under the direction of general manager and founder, Marc Ffrench.
Ffrench partnered with Colter Simmons for the 2024 season, moving the team out of the Nova Scotia valley and into the Dartmouth/Cole Harbour/Preston areas. Simmons took sole possession of the organization in 2025.
The 56ers have been to one PROLINE Legacy Cup championship, falling to Halifax Thunder in 2024.
It has one Nova Scotia Division regular season title under its belt as well.
