We’re not sure who is going to have its team name etched onto the PROLINE Legacy Cup in 2027, but we sure know this.
It may be September, but all eight Maritime Women’s Basketball Association are in the process of securing players for next season to lift the crown.
In five seasons of MWBA action, the Halifax Thunder has certainly had its share of success.
Thunder has hoisted the Legacy Cup three times in the five MWBA seasons. Halifax reigned supreme in 2023, 2024 and 2026. It captured the 2023 crown in Saint John, stayed at home in 2024 to win and this past season, carried the hardware back to the Nova Scotia capital from Fredericton.
The inaugural Legacy Cup champions were the Halifax Hornets, back in 2022.
Miramichi HerIcanes have been the only New Brunswick Division team to win the title.
Miramichi earned championship laurels in 2025 in Fredericton.
Over 125 players, coaches, managers and support have had a chance to pose with the trophy on championship Sunday.
Who has next?
Plenty of work to be done, but the process is in motion.
