The Lake City 56ers made a bit of franchise history Sunday.
The 56ers won their first game as the newly-christened Maritime Women’s Basketball Association team after beginning its origins in Windsor for the circuit’s first two seasons.
Lake City downed hometown Halifax Hornets, 67-62 at Mount St. Vincent University.
The 56ers evened their record to 1-1. It was the season debut for the Hornets.
Lake City erupted early, rolling out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter before Halifax clawed its way back to make a game of things down the stretch.
Elizabeth Iseyemi paced all scorers with 24 points. Courtney Donaldson dropped 19 and Courtney Cain-Nordin popped 10.
Jasmine Parent carried Halifax offence with 13 points. Aliyah Fraser and Sarah Gordon both had eight.
