The Halifax Thunder is a win away from its third consecutive undefeated Maritime Women’s Basketball Association season.
Halifax rolled past Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth, 89-57 on Thursday to move to 9-0 on the season. Thunder finishes play Sunday, visiting Halifax Hornets in a 3 p.m. contest at Mount St. Vincent University.
Thursday’s game was played at Saint Mary’s University and was never in doubt for the hosts as Lake City fell to 6-4, its season finished, securing second place in Nova Scotia and earning a first round bye. Thunder will face the Hornets in playoff action Tuesday at Saint Mary’s. The winner advances straight to the Pro*Line Legacy Cup final at Dalhousie University June 22 to 23.
The loser faces Lake City on Thursday to decide Nova Scotia’s second team.
Grace Lancaster sparked the Thunder with 16 points and Justine Colley-Leger popped 15. Alaina McMillan scored 11 and Sandy Saunders added nine to the cause.
Emma Cameron and Elizabeth Iseyemi had 11 apiece for Lake City.
