It’s the Halifax Thunder and Lake City 56ers.
For all the marbles.
The curtain will come down Sunday in the third season of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association when the Halifax Thunder tangles with Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour in the championship outing.
Game time for the Pro*Line Stadium Legacy Cup is 2:30 p.m. at Dalhousie University in Halifax.
Both teams certainly took different routes to the final.
Thunder downed Port City Fog, 81-42 in its semifinal, taking control early and cruising past the Saint John squad.
Lake City certainly used dramatics.
As in last second theatre.
After Bailey Russell’s dramatic three-point with 7.8 seconds left in the game pushed Fredericton Freeze into a 77-76 lead, the 56ers took a time out.
The ball was inbounded to Leah Martin, who bobbled it, but recovered and found Courtney Donaldson to her right. Donaldson found enough daylight – and time – to make a basket move and made it count, sinking the winner at the buzzer for a 78-77 win.
Fredericton and Port City play in the 12:30 p.m. third place game.
