Days are longer, snow is starting disappear and the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is ready to rumble for its fourth season of spring and early summer showdowns.

The 2025 schedule has been released and opening weekend will feature all seven teams in action when the May 3 to 4 weekend arrives.

‘We have our schedule and are now fine-tuning all of it to ensure building availability in some centres,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘There are a lot of busy venues across our league, but the vast majority of our dates are completed along with times. We will release the entire schedule once we do finalize and sign off on a couple of games.’

The league will open Saturday, May 3 and culminate June 22 with the Pro*Line Legacy Cup championship.

The MWBA will officially announce Pro*Line Legacy Cup details March 11.

Two-time reigning champion Halifax Thunder will open Season IV at home May 3 at Saint Mary’s University on May 3, welcoming city rival Halifax Hornets. One other May 3 game, has Moncton Mystics welcoming Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour to Crandall University.

Lake City will remain in New Brunswick for a game Sunday, May, providing the opposition for the Miramichi Hericanes’ home opener. One other May 4 game has Fredericton Freeze at home, facing Highway No. 7 rival Port City Fog of Saint John to the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.

A year ago, Thunder defeated Lake City in the final.

‘We can feel the momentum start to build and teams are beginning to assemble rosters and prepare for our fourth season,’ said McKenzie. ‘We’re just as excited about this season as we were the first year. We can’t wait to get going.’
