The Lake City 56ers started the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association with a tough assignment.
First two games were on the road.
Well, the Dartmouth-Cole Harbour-based squad kicked off on the right foot with a convincing 95-72 win over the Moncton Mystics as the MWBA opened its fourth season on Saturday night.
The game was played at Crandall University.
Lake City moved t0 1-0 and Moncton fell to 0-1.
Courtney Donaldson sparked Lake City with a game high 21 points including 11 in the second half. Lillian Fuller dropped 11 and MacKenzie Smith offered 10 for the 56ers.
Lake City held a 46-38 lead in a wide-open first half.
The Mystics had a balanced offence with Lindy Alcorn’s 16 leading the way. Kate Filmore scored 15, Olivia Mowatt 14 and Addie Albert had 13 for Moncton.
There are three games Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. when Port City Fog of Saint John visits Fredericton Freeze at Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium. At 2 p.m., Lake City visits Miramichi Her-Icanes at Miramichi Valley High School.
The 5 p.m. game has Halifax Thunder hosting Halifax Hornets at Saint Mary’s University.
