MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

56ers Setting MWBA Pace

Yes, they may have played more games than any other team, but they’re making the most of those outings.

That’s why the Lake City 56ers are setting the place in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association as the circuit enters its third week of competition.

The Dartmouth/Cole Harbour squad sits 5-1 and 10 points atop the standings of the seven-team MWBA entering action this week.

Red-hot Miramichi Her-Icanes, who dropped their season opener to Lake City, have rattled off three straight wins and sit 3-1 and sole possession of second place.

Then, it becomes muddled.

Fredericton Freeze sits by itself in third spot with a 2-2 record while Halifax Thunder, Port City Fog of Saint John and Halifax Hornets are tied for fourth with identical 1-2 marks.

Moncton Mystics are seeking their first win in three starts.

It all sets for an interesting week with a pair of mid-week outings to kickstart the week.

Thunder and Hornets tangle in an all-Halifax affair on Wednesday, a 7 p.m. start at Mount St. Vincent University.

The game is a makeup tilt from last Saturday when gymnasium work and updates were being finalized at MSVU.

Half an hour in New Brunswick’s capital city, the Freeze welcomes Moncton to the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium. Please note there is a prior event at the LB Gym that evening, but it is expected all will be moved out prior to game time.

Action continues on the weekend with a bevy of outings.

On Saturday, Port City visits Lake City at the Zatzman Sportsplex in Dartmouth while Fredericton faces the Hornets at MSVU.

Both games are at 3 p.m.

Three games are on tap Sunday.

Port City visits the Hornets at 1 p.m. at MSVU, Moncton is in Miramichi at 2 p.m. and Fredericton caps its roadie at Cole Harbour High School against the 56ers at 3 p.m.
