The Battle of Halifax went Wednesday night.
Advantage, Thunder.
Down 30-28 at halftime, Halifax Thunder went on a roll in the second half, particularly the fourth quarter, outscoring the Halifax Hornets 42-27 in the final 20 minutes for an eventual, 72-55 triumph.
Thunder moved to 8-0 on the season after entering the fourth quarter with a 48-46 lead. Hornets have dropped three in a row and sit at 5-4 as the league enters its final week of regular season play.
Justine Colley-Leger paced the Thunder – and all players – with a game-high 21 points. Elizabeth Beals-Iseyemi knocked down 15 and Kali Grootenboer meshed 10.
Aki Kobayashi and Lucy Beaumont both had 12 points for the Hornets. Samantha Russell scored eight.
Action continues Thursday night in New Brunswick when the hometown Fredericton Freeze (3-4) hosts Moncton Mystics (6-2) at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.
It should be noted the game is scheduled for 7 p.m., but could be closer to 7:20 p.m., following an event at the gymnasium.
The MWBA will post any time change on Thursday.
