The Halifax Thunder clinched first place overall and guarantees itself a bye to the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association semifinals.
Only thing left is this…can Thunder finish the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record?
That’s all that awaits Halifax after it moved to 9-0 with a 77-51 win over Port City Fog of Saint John on Sunday afternoon in Moncton.
Thunder puts its perfect season bid on the line Thursday when it visits Windsor Edge.
Against the Fog, Halifax used another balanced attack with every player hitting the scoresheet, paced by 14 from Haley McDonald. Laura Langille had a baker’s dozen and Katherin Quackenbush posted nine.
Halifax held a 41-19 lead at halftime.
Reese Baxendale’s 19 paced Port City. Rachel Farwell had 16.
Port City wrapped up its regular season with a 2-8 record.
It will now await results over the next week with Fredericton Freeze and Moncton Mystics on who finishes where for NB teams.
Thunder and the top New Brunswick team earns semifinal berths. Nova Scotia second place faces New Brunswick third place and Nova Scotia third meets New Brunswick second in quarter-final playoffs.
The league finishes its regular season next weekend to set the stage for June 24 to 26 final for the Legacy Cup in Halifax.
