This one was a dandy.
Halifax Thunder and Port City Fog of Saint John duelled in an entertaining affair in Maritime Women’s Basketball Association play Saturday in Fredericton.
Thunder prevailed, 81-74, thanks in large part to a 30-point second quarter, the difference in this one between a pair of solid entrants.
Halifax moved to 2-0 and Port City slipped to 2-2 with the setback.
Karissa Kajorinne, last year’s leading scorer in the MWBA, finished with a game-high 30 points to spark Halifax. Sydney Guker-Wickie fired 13 and Katie Ross had 10.
Kaylee Kilpatrick, the MWBA’s first player of the week winner, powered Port City with 18 points. Mackenzee Ryan popped 16 and Jessica Keripe 15.
Thunder faces Fredericton Freeze Sunday at 3 p.m. while Port City gets up early to face Windsor Edge at 11 a.m.
All games are at Bliss Carman Middle School.
