Lauren Rainford is in her first Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.
She is certainly making herself at home.
Rainford, the dynamic guard with expansion Miramichi Her-Icanes leads the MWBA in scoring through two weeks of play, producing at a 23.0 points per game clip.
She has company.
Elizabeth Iseyemi of Lake City 56ers is second in scoring with 22.7 points and her teammate Courtney Donaldson sits third at 20.3. Alaina McMillan of Halifax Thunder is at 19.0 for fourth and her teammate Justine Colley-Leger is fifth at 16.7 per outing.
Iseyemi leads the rebounding category with 12.3 a game and Abby Miller of Miramichi is next at 10.5. Allie McCarthy of Fredericton Freeze is third with 9.7 a game, Kelsey McLaughlin of Moncton Mystics is fourth with 9.5 and Hannah Brown of Halifax Hornets rounds out the top five with 9.3 boards per game.
Katie Upham of Thunder is atop the assists leaderboard with 6.7, just ahead of reigning league MVP Kaylee Kilpatrick of Saint John’s Port City Fog with 6.5. Rainford and McMillan have 4.5 a game, Donaldson is at 4.3 and McCarthy at an even 4.0.
League action continues Thursday night when the Hornets visit Lake City in a 7 p.m. game at the Dartmouth Sportsplex.
Miramichi is home Friday night to welcome Moncton. That game is set for 7 p.m. at Miramichi Valley High School.
The MWBA will then break or the Victoria Day long weekend.
