The race for first place continues, but there are a number of teams with opportunities to make a move this weekend in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association.
Four games are on the MWBA slate including a busy Saturday with three outings and a single tilt Sunday.
First, let’s set the stage in the standings.
Halifax Thunder sits 5-0 and tied with Dartmouth’s Lake City 56ers, who are 5-1. The 56ers lost their first game of the year to Thunder, but has rattled off five straight wins.
Then it gets interesting, as if the race for top spot isn’t.
Fredericton Freeze (3-3) and Port City Fog of Saint John (3-2) are tied for third spot with six points. Miramichi Her-icanes are a step behind their New Brunswick rivals at 2-3 and Moncton Mystics are 1-4. Halifax Hornets are still seeking their first win in six trips.
What will change this weekend?
The action kicks off in Moncton when the Mystics host Thunder at Harrison Trimble High School.
Game time is 4 p.m.
Miramichi visits the Hornets at 6:30 p.m. at Mount St. Vincent University.
Saturday’s final game is in Saint John when Lake City visits Port City at 7 p.m. at University of New Brunswick at Saint John.
The 56ers remain in New Brunswick and will make the trek to Fredericton on Sunday to meet the Freeze at 1 p.m.
That game is set for Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.
