Fredericton Freeze needed a road win.
They got it the old-fashioned way Thursday night in Moncton.
Tenacious defence and timely scoring sparked the Freeze to an entertaining and wildly physical 81-62 win over hometown Moncton Mystics in Maritime Women’s Basketball Association play.
Fredericton moved to 5-4. Moncton slipped to 3-6.
Both teams have one game left in the regular season.
Allie McCarthy and Eva Tumwine both scored 17 points to fuel Fredericton. Both Amanda Russell and Bailey Russell sunk a dozen apiece.
Leonie Elbert paced Moncton with 17 points. Allie Berry added 13.
Freeze held a 43-36 halftime lead.
