MWBA Star Earns SMU Honour

The Class of 2024 for Saint Mary’s University Department of Athletics features a member of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association champion Halifax Thunder.

Justine Colley-Leger, one of this country’s best-ever basketball players, will be enshrined in the Huskies’ hall Oct. 5.

Colley-Leger has spent two seasons in the MWBA and helped Thunder win its second straight Pro*Line Stadium Legacy Cup title last June.

She will join field hockey coach Sharon Rajaraman as a builder and the 1976-77 Huskies’ women’s basketball squad in the team category.

Colley-Leger had a tremendous career with Saint Mary’s.

She was named one of USPORTS Top 100 women’s players of the century 2020 and was the national university player of the year twice. A three-time First Team All-Canadian, Colley-Leger, was also a two-time Atlantic University Sport MVP, AUS rookie of the year, a five-time first-team conference all-star and USPORTS athlete of the year in 2013-14.

Colley-Leger has amassed 156 points over her two seasons with the Thunder.

The MWBA congratulates Colley-Leger on this occasion.

She becomes the second MWBA player to earn a ticket to a hall of fame.

Former MWBA league MVP Kaylee Kilpatrick of Saint John’s Port City Fog will be inducted into the Greater Saint John Hall of Fame later in the fall.
