Shannon Parlee doesn’t have much time to sit.
Perhaps to watch her beloved Toronto Raptors or Boston Bruins play a game, but other than that, Parlee is on the move.
The owner of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Moncton Mystics – and former player with Mount Allison University Mounties – Parlee is getting set for her latest adventure.
The Riverview, NB, native founded and runs a large women’s basketball league that kicks off Sunday, Oct. 20.
The season runs through April with over 60 women registered to play.
Many of the players participated in Parlee’s summer drop in league which ended in August.
‘We have a maximum of 15 players per team and usually get anywhere from eight to 10 out for each game which is great,’ said Parlee. ‘It’s a lot of fun to see so many women out playing.’
Parlee is certainly used to organizing basketball.
She is an original member of the MWBA with her Mystics, one of the league’s top drawing teams with its games at Harrison Trimble High School and Crandall University in Moncton.
The Mystics are joined in the MWBA by New Brunswick rivals Fredericton Freeze, Miramichi Hericanes and Port City Fog of Saint John. Nova Scotia boasts Halifax Thunder, Halifax Thunder and Dartmouth/Cole Harbour’s Lake City 56ers.
