One of the faces of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association will receive a major moment in the sun Saturday, Oct. 26.
Unfortunately for Saint John’s Kaylee Kilpatrick, she’s a few time zones away.
Kilpatrick, the star of the MWBA’s Port City Fog, is teaching in New Zealand and will be unable to attend her induction into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame.
The ceremony is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Lily Lake Pavilion in Saint John’s North End.
The Hall of Fame has honoured local athletes, coaches, officials, teams and sport builders since 1987. Showcased at TD Station, the Hall of Fame spans decades of achievements in a broad spectrum of sports and stands as a lasting tribute to our region’s tremendous sporting legacy.
Kilpatrick, a former MWBA MVP and scoring champion, will join baseball’s William John “Tip” O’Neill, athletics’ Barry Britt, the 1961 YMCA Flyers basketball team and former National Hockey League defenceman, Randy Jones.
Kilpatrick played interscholastically at Harbour View High School before emerging a star with the University of New Hampshire Wildcats at the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I level.
She would leave UNH to enjoy a long professional career, making stops in Ireland, Australia and Germany, a top import for her teams.
The MWBA salutes Kilpatrick for her efforts.
‘Since day one, Kaylee has truly embodied the spirit and joy of playing in the MWBA,’ said league commission, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘Her leadership and incredible talents made her a force in our league. We are dearly going to miss her presence in the 2025 season, but what an honour it is for her and her family.’
Tickets for the event are available through Event Brite.
