MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

Schedule Drafts Now Under Way

The 2025 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is months away.

That doesn’t mean the work toward Year IV is heading into winter hibernation.

Far from it.

The MWBA features seven teams including four in New Brunswick and three in Nova Scotia.

A schedule with seven teams – based on last year following expansion with the Miramichi Hericanes – is being worked on.

If expansion occurs for the second straight year, another eight-team schedule is being drawn.

‘Having schedules completed in the fall allows teams to secure their gymnasium dates and times and also allows preparation for player recruitment,’ said MWBA commission, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘We had a few bumps with seven teams making it difficult to schedule for road trips, but we think we have those speedbumps solved if we proceed similar to last year’s geographical makeup.’

The Pro*Line Legacy Cup championship weekend will be held in New Brunswick in June.

A site has yet to be determined.

The Fredericton Freeze announced late summer it could not host championship weekend due to conflicts at the University of New Brunswick.

That would leave Port City Fog of Saint John, Moncton Mystics and Miramichi Hericanes as potential hosts.

Port City hosted Legacy Cup weekend in 2023.
