Bill Gibson has meant a ton to the Fredericton Freeze and the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association since inception in 2022.
The work Gibson puts into his craft as livestream voice for the Freeze and MWBA did not go unnoticed.
He was named a winner in the Sport New Brunswick Awards gala for outstanding media coverage for 2024.
Gibson’s work with the Freeze is not the only commitment he makes each year.
Not even close.
He co-hosts the popular podcast Late Scratches, is the livestream voice for St. Thomas University Tommies men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball and also works the microphone for the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League’s Fredericton Royals. Gibson adds broadcasting work with Maritime Hockey League’s Fredericton Red Wings and can be heard at numerous interscholastic tournaments across the province.
‘The dedication and commitment Bill has toward amateur sports in our city and across the province and Maritimes is remarkable,’ said Freeze general manager, Brad Janes. ‘I get to work with him almost every day and the passion he brings is fuel for all of us. Bill has a deep sense of community and he loves to tell the stories of athletes, coaches and those who make amateur sports tick. Our Freeze organization couldn’t be happier for him.’
Gibson also earned the MWBA’s first ever unsung hero award during last spring’s Pro*Line Stadium Series Legacy Cup championship.
‘Gibby is one of those people that makes our league so special,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth. ‘He is passionate and caring and has become a big part of what we’re doing. We were so happy when we found out he was being recognized by Sport New Brunswick. It’s well deserved.’
