Seven teams are in the hunt for an Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championship.
And considering the 2024-25 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association final is being held in Fredericton next March, two ACAA teams will qualify for nationals, hosted by St. Thomas University Tommies.
With that in mind, there are plenty of ACAA players who played in the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association last season.
We continue following MWBA players playing at the university level in Canada and the United States.
As the ACAA breaks until January, Sackville’s Mount Allison University Mounties sit atop the standings with a 7-2 record despite injuries to starters.
There are three members of Saint John’s Port City Fog with the Mounties including Amelia Mitchell and the injured Danielle Alexander and Grace Tilley, the latter two hoping to make season debuts next month.
Mitchell has started all nine games for Mount Allison, averaging 14.6 points a game and logging almost 28 minutes of floor time.
Holland College Hurricanes of Charlottetown are 6-2 at the break and feature Lauren Armstrong of the MWBA’s Lake City 56ers and Alexa Rancourt of the Miramichi Hericanes.
Both have started all eight games for Holland College.
Armstrong brings 16.5 points to the fold in just over 32 minutes and Rancourt’s average is 15.0 points and 28.8 minutes.
Mount St. Vincent University Mystics of Halifax are 6-3 and have Amanda Pearcey of the Halifax Hornets in the lineup. She has started six games and scores 10.2 points an outing, logging just under 32 minutes a game. Celine Sterckel of Moncton Mystics is averaging 17.0 points per game and just under 27 minutes. Moncton’s Samia Amadou is with the Mystics, but has yet to play.
University of King’s College Blue Devils of Halifax are 5-3 and have Lindsay Black of the Moncton Mystics. Black was injured in the first half and was averaging 14.0 points a game and 27 minutes on the floor through three games.
University of New Brunswick at Saint John Seawolves are 1-7 and have three players including Avery Alward of Port City and Miramichi’s Bailey Henderson and Jenny Cripps.
Alward has started all eight games for the ‘Wolves. She averages 11.5 points a game and a tad over 25 minutes. Henderson brings 9.0 points to the lineup and Cripps 5.3, while starting each game.
Crandall University Chargers of Moncton are 0-8.
The Moncton school has Tristan Desroches of the Hericanes and Tarvinder Kaur of the Mystics.
Desroches averages just under 12 minutes a game and Kaur 5.7 while logging almost 15 minutes an outing.
St. Thomas, by the way, sits 3-3, but does not have any MWBA players.
