It’s as big a rivalry as there is in Canadian sports.
And two members of the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s Fredericton Freeze are going to be in the thick of things.
Both Allie McCarthy and Bailey Russell will be with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees as they play in the Capital Hoops Classic on Friday night at TD Place in the nation’s capital.
The all-Ottawa clash has fans licking their chops for these two Ontario University Athletics powerhouses.
Carleton comes in at 19-0 and the Gee Gees are 17-2, both teams playing out of OUA East Division.
The Ravens topped Ottawa, 81-59 back on Dec. 4.
Since its debut in 2007, the Capital Hoops Classic has played host to some of the highest recorded attendance figures in U SPORTS basketball history. Over 100,000 fans have experienced the rivalry and epic games between the Gee-Gees and Ravens.
In 2015 a record 10,780 fans attended the event.
McCarthy has started all 19 games for Ottawa and has amassed 238 points. Russell has started four times and has scored 144 points.
