MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

Schedule to be Confirmed

The 2025 Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is awaiting some fine-tuning and cementing times, but all systems are go for the circuit’s fourth season.

‘All teams have the schedule and now it’s a matter of ensuring building availability and some other minor logistical operations,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘It’s never easy putting a schedule together with uneven number of teams. Some of our franchises made concessions to accommodate some quirks, but we’re excited to await the official launch.’

The league returns reigning champion Halifax Thunder, Halifax Hornets, Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour, Fredericton Freeze, Moncton Mystics, Port City Fog of Saint John and Miramichi Hericanes.

League officials had hoped it would be announcing an expansion franchise in Truro, NS, but those hopes were dashed earlier in February. Talks remain with Truro officials to create a team for the 2026 season.

What is known is the league will open its doors the May 3-4 weekend.

Its Legacy Cup championship will be played June 21-22.

A site will be determined and announced as early next week.
