MWBA - Maritime Womens Basketball Association

56ers, Mystics Open 2025

The Maritime Women’s Basketball Association is set for Season IV.

‘We’re ready and cannot wait to kickstart another season,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth. ‘All the teams have been on the floor working out and finalizing rosters. We have such a nice combination of familiar, veteran faces and new faces from players to coaches. The MWBA continues to evolve and 2025 is going to be a blast.’

There is one game set for a Saturday showcase and it unfolds in Moncton.

The hometown Mystics will celebrate playing in their new gym when they host the Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour at Crandall University in Moncton.

Game time is 6 p.m.

Moncton had been based out of Harrison Trimble High School the previous three seasons, but will call Crandall home for 2025.

‘We’re excited to move into a larger space and showcase the Mystics and the MWBA,’ said Moncton general manager, Shannon Parlee. ‘We had such a great time at Harrison Trimble. We played the league’s first-ever game there when we hosted a pre-season game back in 2022 against Fredericton and that just fueled the league to where it is today. We hope to create the same atmosphere at Crandall.’

There are three games on tap Sunday, kicking off in New Brunswick’s capital city.

Hometown Fredericton Freezer welcome Highway 7 rival Port City Fog of Saint John to the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium on the campus of University of New Brunswick.

Game time is 1 p.m.

One hour late, the Miramichi Madhouse will be rocking when the hometown Hericanes begin their second season, hosting Lake City.

Game time is 2 p.m. at Miramichi Valley High School.

The third game of the day is an all-Halifax battle as the host Thunder greet the Hornets at Saint Mary’s University.

Game time is 5 p.m.

That Halifax tilt was originally scheduled for Saturday, but floor renovations at Saint Mary’s delayed the contest by 24 hours.

All teams play a 10-game regular season and then will split into provinces for playoffs.

The surviving four teams will meet in the ProLine Legacy Cup championship June 21 to 22 at the Richard J. Currie Center in Fredericton.
