Donaldson Earns Nod

The Lake City 56ers opened the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association’s fourth season with two convincing wins in New Brunswick.

A key part for the offensive outbursts for the Dartmouth-Cole Harbour-based squad was Courtney Donaldson.

Donaldson, in her second MWBA season with the 56ers, scored 33 combined points in the wins and was named the league’s first Royale Player of the Week.

Royale is a founding partner of the MWBA.

Donaldson erupted for 21 points in a 95-72 win over Moncton Mystics. She scored 12 in a 76-50 triumph over the Miramichi Her-Icanes.

Other players considered for the Royale Player of the Week included Moncton’s Lindy Alcorn, Allie McCarthy of the Fredericton Freeze, Erin Ingalls of Saint John’s Port City Fog, Lily Francois of Halifax Hornets and Sandy Saunders of Halifax Thunder.
