We’re through two weeks of Maritime Women’s Basketball Association and the call has gone out for a coin.
A coin?
Yes, a coin that may be required to figure out where the power rests in the seven-team league as Season IV has brought plenty of early surprises.
‘We’re two weeks in, there are no undefeated teams, we have watched some truly outstanding individual performances and teams are already figuring out this season could come down to the wire on a number of fronts,’ said MWBA commissioner, Jen McKenzie of Dartmouth, NS. ‘It’s an ‘on any given day’ scenario where teams can rise up and post wins. We look forward to our third week of play.’
That opens quickly this week.
There are some rematch games from last weekend including the week’s lidlifter on Thursday at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax.
That’s where host Halifax Thunder greet Lake City 56ers.
Game time is 7 p.m.
Halifax stopped Lake City’s undefeated mark to open the season at three games on Sunday with a 76-68 win to move to 1-1. The 56ers are 301, but hold on to top spot in the circuit with six points.
On Friday, there are a pair of games including the Port City Fog hosting Moncton Mystics at the University of New Brunswick at Saint John.
Game time is 7 p.m.
Both teams come in seeking their first win of the season against a loss.
The teams had a game postponed last weekend, but will make it up Wednesday, May 28, at 7:30 p.m. at Crandall University in Moncton.
The other Friday game is also a rematch of last weekend when the Fredericton Freeze (1-1) host Miramichi Her-icanes (1-1).
Miramichi topped the Freeze, 68-56 at home.
On Saturday, Thunder visits Halifax Hornets (1-1) in a 2 p.m. contest at Mount St. Vincent University.
Four hours later at 6 p.m., Fredericton invades Moncton for a date with the Mystics at Crandall University.
The busy Week III is capped Sunday when Miramichi welcomes Port City to the river city for a 2 p.m. contest.
The Hornets cross the bridge to face Lake City in a 3 p.m. outing at Cole Harbour High School.
