The Halifax Thunder cracked the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win column in a big way.
And plenty of the thanks went to Sami Russell.
Russell erupted for a game high – and league season high – 29 points as Thunder rolled past previously undefeated Lake City 56ers, 76-68.
For her efforts, Russell was named the MWBA’s Royale Player of the Week.
Others considered for the award were Lauren Armstrong of Lake City, Grace Lancaster from Miramichi Her-Icanes, Amanda Piercey of the Halifax Hornets and Bailey Russell of the Fredericton Freeze.
Both Moncton Mystics and Port City Fog of Saint John were idle last weekend as Week II culminated.
Action in Week III kicks off Thursday when the Thunder host 56ers in a 7 p.m. contest at Saint Mary’s University.
