Fog, ‘Canes Earn Wins

The Port City Fog cracked the win column and the Miramichi Her-icanes called an electrician to fix the scoreboard as the two teams grabbed the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association headlines Friday night.

In Saint John, the Fog used a balanced offence and turned a tight fourth quarter game into an eventual 66-56 win over the Moncton Msytics.

Miramichi, meanwhile, shot the lights out in Fredericton, lighting up the Freeze, 100-76.

Port City used a game-high 22 points from Amelia Mitchell to subdue the Mystics. Danielle Alexander counted eight and McKinley Bezanson and Ainsley Green both had seven.

Lindy Alcorn popped 15 for Moncton. Celine Sterckel had a dozen and Eavan McLaughlin scored 11.

The Fog moved to 1-1 and Moncton slipped to 0-2.

At Fredericton, the Her-Icanes came out hot and didn’t stop, scoring 61 first half points en route to eclipsing the century mark.

Grace Lancaster had 16 for Miramichi. Abby Miller scored 15, Bailey Black and Lauren Rainford had 14 apiece and Katie Donahoe clicked for 10.

Courtney Thompson had a game-high for Fredericton. Samantha Stordy and Allie McCarthy scored 14. Nicole Esson had 11 and Bailey Russell 10.

The ‘Canes moved to 2-1 and the Freeze fell to 1-2.

Fredericton visits Moncton on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The teams play at Crandall University.
