Mystics Crack Win Column

Two teams came out firing on all offensive cylinders in the first half.

But it was the second half that spelled the difference as defences locked down and late shots spelled the difference as the hometown Moncton Mystics cracked the Maritime Women’s Basketball Association win column Wednesday night, downing the Port City Fog of Saint John, 69-65.

Moncton carried a 42-33 lead into the halftime locker and appeared poised to put some frustrating losses behind them before Port City said ‘not so fast.’

The Fog crept back and kept battling, coming to within one, trailing 63-62 late in the fourth quarter before Moncton put the game away even later to celebrate victory.

Mystics moved to 1-6, matching Port City’s record.

Lindy Alcorn powered Moncton with 16 points. Celine Sterckel had 15 points including 11 in the second half. Emilie Turmel popped 11.

McKinley Bezanson paced all scorers with 21 including six treys for Port City. Erin Ingalls had 15 and Clancy McIntyre added 11.
