Her-icanes Continue to Roll

The streak sits at seven.

After a season opening setback, the Miramichi Her-icanes are on fire, winners of seven straight Maritime Women’s Basketball Association outings.

Miramichi’s latest win was a tidy 62-44 triumph at home, downing Halifax Hornets.

The’ Canes are now 7-1, tied for top spot atop the standings with the idle Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour.

Lauren Rainford, coming off a 25-point night Saturday in a win over Fredericton Freeze, stayed hot, potting 19 points. Devon Lawlor scored 10 for Miramichi.

Amanda Pearcey’s nine paced Halifax. Melina Collins scored eight.

Miramichi will be New Brunswick’s top seed entering the playoffs and will host Port City Fog in semifinal action June 14-15 weekend as the MWBA enters it regular season home stretch.

Halifax fell to 3-6 and will be the third Nova Scotia seed when its divisional post-season begins.
