The PRO•LINE Legacy Cup has its first entrant.
Regular season champion Lake City 56ers of Dartmouth/Cole Harbour will be in Fredericton June 21-22, the first Maritime Women’s Basketball Association team to qualify for the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup at the Richard J. Currie Center.
Lake City will enter the eventual Final Four as top seed.
The 56ers advanced with a convincing 83-59 win over Halifax Hornets on Thursday in the Nova Scotia division playoffs. As Lake City prepares for final weekend, Hornets get a second chance to qualify.
With three teams in Nova Scotia, a repechage playoff format means the Hornets will visit second provincial seed Halifax Thunder on Friday.
Game time is 7 p.m. at Saint Mary’s University.
The winner of that game joins Lake City in Fredericton for championship weekend.
New Brunswick playoffs open Saturday when Miramich Her-Icanes host Port City Fog of Saint John at 6 p.m. at Miramichi Valley High School.
The final qualifying playoff is Sunday night at 7 p.m. when Fredericton Freeze hosts Moncton Mystics.
That game is set for Fredericton High School.
At Dartmouth, five 56ers hit for double figures and Lake City carried a 40-30 halftime lead into victory.
Courtney Donaldson and MacKenzie Smith both had 18 points for Lake City. Aki Kobayashi sunk 13, Lauren Armstrong had 11 and Darah Felurgin scored 10.
Amanda Pearcey paced all scorers and the Hornets with a game-high 23 points.
