CSG Quarter-Finals Are Set

It’s crunch time at the Canada Summer Games.

Yes, it’s quarter-final Thursday as provinces start jockeying for position including three Maritime teams.

Basketball Nova Scotia finished as the fifth seed and will face No. 4 Quebec for a path to the semifinals. Basketball New Brunswick finished eighth and draw upstart Basketball Alberta which finished ahead of No. 2 Ontario as the event’s top seed. Prince Edward Island finished No. 7 and meets No. 3 British Columbia.

Huge crowds have attended the basketball venue in St. John’s, NL, for the competition.

How has it been playing in front of rapid Newfoundland fans at Memorial University?

Ask Moncton’s Sophie Doiron who was part of BNB’s win over Newfoundland to get to the quarter-finals.

‘It’s great. It’s been awhile since New Brunswick has got this far — we’re just pumped,’ Doiron told event organizers. ‘All the girls are super happy. We’re glad to be doing this together. We love it. It’s an honour. Seeing a full gym in here — it’s insane how loud it is in here. The atmosphere is insane.’
