Thunder Downs Hornets, Advances to Final

Moving on.

The Halifax Thunder is on its way to the PRO•LINE Legacy Cup championship.

Halifax fell behind early to Nova Scotia capital rival Halifax Hornets in semifinal play Saturday, but found its mark late in the first quarter and roared on to an 84-56 win.

Thunder now awaits the winner of Saturday’s second semifinal when Moncton Mystics battle Fredericton Freeze.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Richard J. Currie Center in Fredericton.

Thunder was regular season champion and finished with a 9-1 mark. It defeated the Hornets during both regular season outings and ousted Truro Tidal Queens in Nova Scotia Division semifinal play.

Regular season MVP Elizabeth Beals-Iseyemi sparked Thunder with a 20-point effort. The two-year professional in Germany’s 2.Bundsliga was a force inside with the bulk of her offence. Alexis Evans dropped 11 and Justine Colley-Leger, named an MWBA all-star, sunk 10 as part of a balanced Halifax scoresheet.

Ella Hoyt and Samantha Russel both had 11 points for Hornets. Lucy Beaumont scored 10.

Beaumont and teammate Clara Gascoigne were named MWBA all-stars.
